Special Projects - page one
I have been very fortunate to have been involved in some great special projects. When anyone asked if I could do something I always said yes and then figured it out.
This first photo is of the Allied Insurance headquarters building. I was asked if I could do a painting of it. The company is one of my corporate collectors so I was happy to create this painting.
This next painting is quite large, it measures 8 by 10 feet. This great Everglades vista was installed at the AAA headquarters in Florida.
Occasionally a collector will ask me if I could do something special for them. This next photo is the private plane of one of my collectors. It was in a hanger so I borrowed a huge ladder there and got above it and took numerous reference photos an then was able to compose this painting from that.
Luckily the client loved the first painting of his plane and when he got another one asked me to paint that as well.
This next photo of a painting I did of a sports car was also a request from a client.
Same client had a motorcycle.
My grandkids love dinosaurs, what can I say, very fun to paint.
Back in the Clinton administration they invited artists to make an ornament for the Christmas trees that were in several places around the White House. I created one and it was accepted. This is the photo they sent to me and the following photo is the thank you note I received.
This painting is 6 by 8 feet. I really love this piece with the Great Blue Heron in a cypress swamp. It is in a private collection.
The Florida Aquarium opened in 1995. I was asked to create a poster to commemorate the occasion. The painting I created was then printed as a limited edition print and rewarded to the top donors that established the aquarium. This artwork was made possible by Arthur Andersen accounting firm.
The whole thing was a big hit and I was invited to create a new image for the next three years. That made four total to signify the four main eco areas of the Florida Aquarium. The first was the mangrove and bird life area, then the sandy shore area, then the coral reef area and finally the deep sea area.
This next image is of the beach area. I created the original painting then with this image I created a silk screen of it, which I then hand painted on for the limited edition print.
The original painting for the coral reef area of the aquarium.
For third year, I created a black and white etching, then hand painted it. You can see in the next photo the etching and then then how I hand painted each one of the limited edition prints.
Each limited edition artwork was presented to the patrons in an absolutely beautiful portfolio case, again courteous of Arthur Andersen. Each portfolio case had a very nice description of the work and a little about me. This next photo is what was in the portfolio for the last image. This is me as I created the etchings. I was very lucky and thankful in that I was allowed to use the huge etching machine in Eckerd College's art department.
Like the previous limited edition artwork this was a black and white etching that I then hand painted each one.
An article from May 12, 1995 announcing the first artwork.
